Spring, Sprang, Sprung
Hello from the new house!
This is Clouds Form Over Land: sporadic writing about resilience, imperfectionism, and our relationship to the earth — inspired by life at sea and coming ashore.

I continue to journal, draft, and doodle about the completion of our 10,000-mile sail from San Francisco to Chesapeake Bay, the vacuum created by actually arriving, the joys and demands of life on land, and how to integrate it all.
For years, our primary focus was getting the boat from point A to point B.
Writing about the trials, tribulations, and magical mundanity of life at sea kept me tethered through the waves. Today finds me rooted and resourced, with less of a need to work out my thoughts in public. My gift of gab goes to the office, craft night, the dinner table, the garden, community meetings, and group chats.

I have more to say, and I am curious where we might go if I drop the contextualizing and pick up from here.
In the meantime, check out this mini doc from local film trio Headwaters Down, following the 2024 class from RVA Paddlesports as we figured out how to guide rafts down the James River:
Perhaps more writing to come?
What’s up with you?
Happy Spring!

Welcome back & happy spring all the way from Germany! I was happy to find the substack mail announcing a new post. When you feel like sharing things publicly again, I'd love to hear about your crafting and how you care about Azimuth in the time you're on land :-)
